What the Lateral Flow Device Tests supply service will provide?
The NHS Lateral Flow Device (LFD) service allows “at-risk” patients to take COVID-19 tests at home. If your test is positive, you will receive a clinical assessment to see if you are eligible for NICE-recommended COVID-19 treatments. This service is for patients aged 12 and above who may qualify for COVID-19 treatments.
How to do a COVID-19 Rapid Lateral Flow Test on your own?
Step 1: Read instructions
Rapid lateral flow tests may require either a:
- Throat and nose swab, or
- Nose swab only
It’s important to carefully read the instructions and check the expiry date before conducting the test.
How to get free COVID-19 Rapid Lateral Flow Tests?
To access free COVID-19 rapid lateral flow tests, patients need to confirm their eligibility by presenting a letter from the NHS or by having a pharmacist verify their eligibility using the National Care Records Service. Each individual receives one box containing five test kits.
Step 2: Prepare
Wash your hands with soap and water or use hand sanitiser. Clear, clean, and dry a flat surface, then lay out all the items in the test kit. If your test does not come with a pre-filled tube, fill the tube with the provided liquid and place the tube in the tube holder.
Step 3: Swab
If your test requires a throat swab, rub it over your tonsils 4 times on each side. Then, using the same swab, wipe the inside of your nose. If your test requires a nose swab only, use the swab to wipe just the inside of your nose.
Step 4: Process test
When completing the test, put the end of the swab into the tube so it’s submerged in the liquid, swirl the swab around, and then close the lid. Squeeze the liquid from the tube onto the test strip.
Step 5: Read results
Wait for the time specified in your test kit instructions, and then read your result.
