Typhoid is most commonly found in East Asia and South Asia (especially India, Bangladesh and Pakistan), Africa, the Middle East, and Central and South America.

Typhoid can be transmitted by consuming food or drink that has been handled by an infected person shedding the bacteria or by sewage contamination of water or food.

For the inactivated injectable vaccine, it can be administered to individuals 2 years of age or older, at least 2 weeks before travel. For the oral vaccine, it can be used on individuals 6 years of age or older with 4 capsules, the last one taken one week before travel.

Both of the vaccines are effective, it depends on the age of the person and health status.

For children aged 2 and older, the inactivated typhoid vaccine is suitable. The oral vaccine is recommended for children aged 6 and older, but not for those younger than this.

The typhoid-inactivated vaccine is safe for pregnant and breastfeeding women. However, typhoid oral vaccines are not recommended for pregnant women.
